Republic's Final Day In Clovis

Yet another contract bites the dust for Allied Waste Services of Central California. This time, Clovis fades out of there service area for the Valley, essentially leaving them with almost no contracts whatsoever.

For the past 35 years or so, Allied Waste (Republic) has provided the Curbside Green Waste and Recycling collection for the City of Clovis. Back then, the city initiated Carted Green Waste and Tubbed Recycling, effectively signing a contract with BFI to collect the materials for both Residential and Commercial while the city focused on collecting only the Garbage component of the city's Solid Waste program. Back then, BFI operated an assortment of trucks to collect materials, using McNeilus MA's for greens and the old white with green curb sort trucks that used to roam the streets of the City of Fresno prior to the city rolling out carts in 2000. In 2006, Clovis decided to pilot program Recycling Carts in an area, and eventually rolled out the whole city between 2008 and 2011. The city signed again with Republic in 2015 (Under Allied Waste Services) for a total of 10 years, and that brings us to today, the very last day of the contract.

I have dreaded this day actually come considering I've only known my drivers for a few months and now that they will be gone, it will be bittersweet. As for the new hauler, Mid Valley Disposal has snagged the contract (like they always do) and begins their services Friday, August 1st, 2025. Could have picked a better company considering the adverse controversy this whole contract thing caused but oh well!
