As 2023 approaches, there’s one place that remained on my 2022 bucket list—Verneukpan. Although I embarked on several adventures through the Northern Cape of South Africa, I never quite made it to this remote and isolated spot for various reasons.

An unexpected opportunity arose—a 2-day break after our 7-day trip in Caledon, Western Cape—and I decided to spend one night in Verneukpan just before our 5-day New Year getaway began.
