Quantum Field Theory (QFT) is infamous among physics students for being a difficult subject. One reason might be the fact that details and the number of concepts and book-keeping devices in this subject is large so it might easily get confusing. Another reason may be the existence of different equivalent formalisms of QFT which do not look connected.
One way to master QFT (and any other difficult subject) efficiently is to learn any topic/problem in steps: first, try to get a big picture without paying attention to mathematical equations and technical details. Sleep over it! Then get back, read/watch/listen (depending on the source) again, and add a little bit of more details. Repeat this by adding equations and more technical details each time. Think about how the big picture in your mind evolves each time. Can you explain the rough, big picture to some lay person? If so, proceed to add even more details. After a few repetitions, each time adding more details, you will have a good understanding of the subject.
