The Survivors are the victims in Outcome Memories. They are the protagonists from their franchise. Within Outcome Memories, they got pulled in from different worlds and time periods, and almost never come from the same world together.[1] The worlds they come from are not separate from original canon, although they may have subtle differences in order to fit the story of the game. Within OM, they are forced to fight back against executioners to have a chance at survival, and escape the nightmare they find themselves in.

Almost every single survivor comes from the classic era, or a variant thereof in their world,[2] meaning some were taken prior to their first debut appearances in original media and have not experienced the events of the modern period. Notable examples of this are Cream, Silver and Blaze.[3] With that being said, whilst not all survivors know eachother, they all know Sonic the Hedgehog.
Most of them (such as 2011X or Kolossos) bear some resemblance to Sonic, while others (such as Suture or Alucard), bear very little to no resemblance to the titular hero. They are forced into these twisted games just like the Survivors, except they are the ones in control, though to little extent. They hunt the Survivors down for nothing more than entertainment, though some (such as END), merely do it out of fear for their own lives, or for reasons not yet revealed.
Outcome Memories is a place created by an unknown void, similar to the one X came from.[10] It is a hellish purgatory, holding captive both the Executioners and Survivors in endless timelines with different outcomes. Most of the Executioners do not want to leave, as they enjoy a cat and mouse chase, while the Survivors do everything that they can to both survive and escape. Any Survivors who happen to die are sent to another timeline inside the purgatory,[11] repeating the cycle all over again. Upon entry of the VOID, the participants are either buffed or debuffed, putting each other on an equal level of power, which is why characters such as Starved are more powerful.[12]

Said purgatory has the appearance of a dark abyss with red tints, large chains connecting to rocks and debris, along with white portals scattered around, similar to the Shatterverse from Sonic Prime, albeit much darker. It is implied that this is where the survivors, and possibly the executioners, reside in between rounds, as well as the place they are taken from and thrown into after said matches. Alucard is a presumed exception to this, as he is said to watch over rounds instead.[13]
