Completed in 1898 and operational until 1984, the grade II listed St. Mary's lighthouse on Beal island is 46m (151 ft) in height, built from 750,000 bricks and superseded the existing 1664 stone lighthouse.
The 137 step high structure as well as the former keeper's cottages, visitor centre and nature reserve can be reached via a short causeway at low tide from the nearby car park to the part time island.
