I tackled my first long bike ride - 56 miles starting in Westfield, MA, riding the northern section of CT's Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. This route runs along a converted rail trail that used to go between Northampton, MA and New Haven, CT - and hopefully it will someday connect to the Mass Central Rail Trail. Part of this route is on the East Coast Greenway.
After looking at fchtrail.org, we decided to take the Farmington River Trail loop back, which reconnects with the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in Simsbury. This loop has about 3 miles of road riding which are not highways, but also not "quiet country roads"... at least for me, as a novice road rider. It was worth it though!
There are many places to eat, rest, park, and pee along this trail. We stopped at Congamond Coffee & Cake first, then Pure Love Bakery and Avon Country Deli. Had to stay fueled for this long ride!
Starting point was the free Westfield Depot parking lot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xaM7D9H3VNMjf.... There is also another lot here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pQhLCCYHHW7QN....
Let me know what you think of the video and/or this ride. Thanks for watching!
