The lakes are located in the Murg Valley in the municipality of Quarten, between the Hochmättli (2252 m) and the Gufelstock (2436 m). Its outflow is the Murgbach, which flows into the Walensee in the Quarten district of Murg. The Murgseen are surrounded by the Glarus Alps.
