We are firing up the Neo Geo to play the original Samurai Shodown (1993).

📺 About This Game: Set in 18th-century feudal Japan, Samurai Shodown (or Samurai Spirits) isn't about punching and kicking—it’s about cold steel. You choose from a roster of unique warriors, including the wandering ronin Haohmaru and the nature-loving Nakoruru, to duel with actual weapons.

⭐ Why It’s Famous & Important: In the 90s, most fighting games were trying to be faster than Street Fighter. Samurai Shodown went the other way:

High Stakes Damage: This game isn't about long combos. It is about one perfect hit. A single heavy slash can take away 40% of your health bar! This created intense, nail-biting matches where one mistake meant death.

The Zoom: It was one of the first games to use the Neo Geo's power to dynamically zoom the camera in when fighters got close and zoom out when they moved apart, making the action feel like a movie.

Weapon Combat: It popularized the weapon-based fighting genre, paving the way for games like SoulCalibur.
