Iron-related bacteria occur naturally in groundwater and are increasing rapidly throughout the world. The interaction of dissolved iron and iron-related bacteria forms a solid, resulting in an encrustation. With age, bores, wells, pumps & pipes can develop a build-up of encrustation and a biofilm that causes a decrease in the bore yield and water quality.
Clearbore Pty Ltd is an Australian owned company manufacturing products in Australia. Clearbore is a substance designed to dissolve the sludge and encrustations that occur in water bores, pumps and pipelines when dissolved iron and iron-related bacteria are in the groundwater.
Clearbore is based on a natural organic acid not a mineral acid such as hydrochloric acid. The compound is derived from organic materials not mineral acids therefore is biodegradable.
Clearbore is produced in a granular form and as such produces considerable savings in the cost and ease of transportation. Clearbore is packed in pails and sold in three sizes, 20kg, 10kg and 5kg. The most popular size is 20kg, the 10kg and 5kg pails are suitable for shallow bores and for workshop use. The amount of Clearbore required is determined by the depth, diameter and standing water level of the bore.
Clearbore is safe and simple to use. Two application methods may be used, for either method simple alteration to the bore infrastructure is required. Remove the discharge pipe at the bore head then run a return pipe from the bore head back down the casing. If necessary, elevate the bore cap to allow access for the pipe (ideally, minimum return pipe size should be an 18mm hose).
Turn the bore pump on and check the water is circulating.
METHOD 1 (preferred method):
Add the required amount of Clearbore to a suitable container 1 part Clearbore to 10 parts water.
I.E: 20kg’s into 200 litres, 10kg’s into 100 litres and 5kg’s into 50 litres then agitate or stir to dissolve (use of warm water will make it easier).
While the pump is running pour the Clearbore mixture into the bore and allow the pump to circulate the mixture for at least 6 hours. Mixing of product can be improved by mechanical assistance.
I.E: power drill. Use a long shaft paint paddle/mixer (available from most hardware stores) to blend product. A smaller, purpose-built container with a return pipe fitted (basically any drum with a bottom tap) can be used by simultaneously adding water whilst draining the mixture to the bore during the blending process.
METHOD 2:
Given sufficient space at the bore head Clearbore can be applied as a granule, Clearbore is not free flowing. Scoop the required amount of Clearbore into the bore while the pump is circulating the water once all the Clearbore is applied allow the mixture to circulate for at least 6 hours. Wash any residue down the bore or water well into the ground.
DISPOSAL OF TREATMENT WATER
After the treatment, remove the discharge pipe to allow the water to disperse onto absorbent ground. When exposed to sunlight and air it will break-down to form carbon dioxide and water. If the water is used only for irrigation, the treatment water can be dispersed via the reticulation system, it will assist in cleaning the pipework. Do not allow the treatment water to be released through overhead sprinklers as the product is untested on foliage other than grass.
NOTE
We recommend that Clearbore not be used in or pumped through household plumbing. Sometimes a sulphur-reducing bacteria (rotten egg smell) is present in bores, and if this is the case with your bore, Clearbore may release an unpleasant, long-lingering sulphur smell throughout your home.
TESTING THE WATER AFTER TREATMENT
If the bore water is for stock or domestic use, it is advisable to test the water before use. Allow the water to run until clear (or whatever colour is deemed normal for that particular bore), then use the test equipment provided in the pail. Take a sample (approx. 30-40ml’s) in a glass jar or the clear plastic container provided and add 10 drops of the testing solution supplied. If the purple (or brown) colour remains stable all Clearbore residue has dissipated. The system can be returned to normal. If the water remains clear after the application of the solution keep flushing the bore for a
further period, then test again.
If a pH reading was recorded before the treatment, check the pH again. When it is within 0.5 of the original reading the water is ready to use.
CLEARBORE IN THE WORKSHOP
Clearbore can also be used to clean pumps and associated equipment during
repairs or overhaul and can also be applied to clean delicate instruments used in the
water industry with complete confidence.
All our products are biodegradable and rated non-hazardous under the Australian Dangerous Goods Code for transportation.
