Los Wembler's de Iquitos at the 2015 Smithsonian Folklife Festival

Los Wembler's de Iquitos formed in the late 1960s in Iquitos, the largest city in the Peruvian Amazon. Fusing together popular dance music from South America and rock 'n' roll from North America, the group coined the term "cumbia amazónica." They performed at the 2015 Smithsonian Folklife Festival's "Perú: Pachamama" program.
