The saddest polygraph tests some polygraph examiners remember for a long time

Per some polygraph examiners, the 'saddest' polygraph tests are not the ones the public would guess if asked-- not murders, not child abuse.

And less common than those are when an elderly husband or wife calls.

That husband might telephone us and explain his situation. They've been married for nearly 60 years. Time has taken its toll on her mind, dementia, Alzheimer, cancer. She suddenly accuses him of hiding an item of hers. The next day she is adamant she heard him say something horrible about her. She retreats to privacy for days over these things she accuses him of. He looks into her eyes and tells her that these thing aren't happening, but he only sees emptiness. And she again says "Why are you lying to me?". And the accusations return again each week. She sees him emotionally exhausted, crying in desperation-- and she tells him that is proof he did those things.

Then he remembered how she used to enjoy those lie detector TV shows. She herself used to tell him that it always got the truth because it was the same test used by police and FBI. So he says "Dear, let's call a polygraph office and get you the truth". She agrees and they arrange it.

He passes his test. It was just like those shows she had watched so many times. The polygraph examiner assures her: "Your husband did not do any of those things". It improves their home life together.
