Taking another look at ''Wawhiker's Carbon Felt Upgrade''

My last video was in responce to a question that CatskillMountainGirl asked:
"Hiram, what would happen if you rolled up a piece of carbon felt and put in in the center of the Trangia? I find I run out of fuel when I dry bake and I wonder if the fuel lasts longer; is it hotter or cooler than without;"

I had said that I thought what CatskillMountainGirl (Cat) is referring to is an idea Wawhiker suggested in a video back in December 2010 where he put a plug of rolled-up carbon felt in the center cavity of a Trangia to, "assits in a more controlled burn for the simmer ring". When I first saw his video I didn't give his idea a try because the CF I was using at the time was just to expensive to be used like that. But now ,thanks to a suggestion from Digitizer101, I have a cheaper source of CF so since Cat asked about it I thought I'ld look at it in this video.

Unfortunately I couldn't get the Trangia to come to a bloom.

Then Rick2Max made a comment:
"It appears that the carbon felt sucked up all of the alcohol and it is also insulating the stove and preventing the alcohol from boiling and pressurizing."

CatskillMountainGirl also made a comment:
"Now I am wondering if you needed to add more than 2 ounces of fuel to get it to bloom since most of it was probably absorbed in the carbon felt."

Thinking about what they said I realized that I goofed the lab up. The burner was totally dry when I put in the 2 fluid ounces of methanol. They were probably right. The CF soaked up all the methanol and didn't let any get into the jet vapor area. No wonder it didn't bloom.

So in this video I'm looking at Wawhiker's idea again. Now you see why I always "Look forward to your input, questions, remarks, helpful suggestions".
