Funeral for son of Burundian opposition figure

(10 Nov 2015) Mourners gathered at a church in Bujumbura on Tuesday for the funeral of Welly Fleury Nzitonda, the son of a Burundian human rights activist, who was killed last week.
Nzitonda's death, after his arrest on Friday, is part of an unremitting wave of killings in Burundi that has prompted international outcry and warnings that Burundi could be on edge of a violent upheaval.
Nzitonda's father, Pierre Claver Mbonimpa, a leading Burundian opposition leader, himself survived an assassination attempt earlier this year.
Last month, Mbonimpa's son-in-law was killed in front of his home.
Nzitonda's brother, Lily Mbonimpa, said his brother was killed because of their father's work.
Observers said many supporters stayed away from the funeral service on Tuesday out of fear.
Last month, a funeral cortege was attacked by unidentified gunmen on the way to the graveyard.
