Zoom PodTrak P4 Review

The Zoom PodTrack P4 releases in October of 2020 and on paper it looks like it could be a game changer. With a low price point and a robust set of features specifically targeted to podcasting, this could be the device that many podcasters have been hoping for. The PodTrak P4 has 4 XLR inputs, and 4 headphone outputs. Each of the inputs have clean preamps and plenty of gain. The PodTrak P4 can handle even gain-hungry microphones like the Shure SM7B and Heil PR40.

The Zoom PodTrak P4 also allows you to easily bring in a phone call or audio from your computer. Creating a mix minus has never been easier and the PodTrak P4 even has four sound pads which allow you to load in your own music, audio clips, listener feedback, ads, or whatever you want to load up for playback during the recording of your podcast. At a very reasonable price of $199 USD, the PodTrack P4 is a great bargain.

It falls short in that it's missing a tripod mount and doesn't ship with an SD card. The audio file converter on the Podcast P4 is slow and there aren't dB digit readings on the screen. However, I believe all of those are small tradeoffs when considering all of the other features.

For an additional $100 USD you can get the PodTrak P4 Mic Pack Kit which includes the ZDM-1 dynamic microphone, XLR cable, small tripod, and headphones. The Zoom ZDM-1 microphone was used for the duration of this video, and it is a great, professional-sounding podcast microphone.
