Pro Watercolors Less than $1 a Tube?!? Shinhan Review
I was intrigued by the Shinhan Professional Watercolors I saw on Amazon for a couple of reasons. 1. Many viewers asked me to review them and 2. a set of 30 7.5ml tubes was $25! That's less than a buck a tube! So I wondered; how good could they really be? But that price was too good to pass up so today I will share my thoughts!

The Shinhan Professional watercolors are not their top of the line watercolors, those are the Shinhan Premium Extra Fine Watercolors https://amzn.to/2vYzbD8 the set of 32 15ml tubes (2x the size as the 7.5 ml tubes in this set) is currently $119 on Amazon which really isn't bad for that much paint but I wasn't willing to take that much of a risk on paints I'd never tried. They have good reviews tho.

Pros:
Very vibrant color-Beautiful color payout!
Dires down well with no cracking
Rewets with the touch of a brush
Many single pigment colors
Mixes cleanly
Lifts easily (handy for beginners)
Pigment numbers are listed on the tubes

Cons:
Some of the colors are not as transparent as I'd like at full strength which will make glazing more than 3 layers ill advised. Also because it lifts easily glazing can be problematic if you are doing many layers.
A couple of the pigments are not lightfast, PY1, PR83, PV4 as well as the fluorescent dye in Opera are know to fade quickly. Most modern watercolors have used substitutes for these pigments but you can still find them in some artist brands and many student brands. Still, I like the fact they list the pigment numbers on the tubes so you can be aware. Opera in any brand, no matter what you pay, is not lightfast.
There was a very faint odor when I first filled my palette but it went away as soon as the paint dried and did not return when I re wet them.

Bottom line: They are a steal at $25, I think they would be fairly priced at $50 for the 30 color set in fact. I would rate them as a high end student quality set, like a step up from Van Gogh or Grumbacher Academy. They perform well and I have no qualms about adding them to my regular rotation. I recommend them to anyone who wants to paint on a budget or who wants a cheaper set to play around with so they can save their "precious" expensive paints for serious work. The only issue I have would be perhaps with glazing if you like to do more than 3 layers due the the opacity of some colors at full strength and the liftability of the paints and of course a few fugitive colors but you can remove them from the set and it is still a bargain. This would be a great set for a beginner as I don't think any of the downsides would be in issue as you probably wouldn't be doing complex glazing. Bottom line, give them a try!
