On today's episode of the Diabetes Survival Guide Show, we welcome Dr. Emily Townsend-Cobb, PT, DPT. Dr. Townsend-Cobb is a physical therapist who specializes in pediatrics and rehabilitation for patients with low vision. She earned her B.S. in Exercise Science from Florida State University in 2012, and received her doctor of physical therapy from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in 2015; becoming one of a handful of blind healthcare professionals in the world. Dr. Townsend-Cobb currently works for Brooks Rehabilitation, and has served both as a team lead and center manager for this organization. Dr. Townsend-Cobb regularly speaks at the national and international level regarding universal design and accessibility for disabled healthcare providers, and recently presented in Boston at the 2024 American Physical Therapy Association’s national conference. Recently, Dr. Townsend-Cobb was awarded the Florida State University’s Reubin O’D. Askew Young Alumni Award; the highest honor bestowed upon young alumni. At home, Dr. Townsend-Cobb is a proud wife and mother to two vivacious little girls. Dr. Townsend-Cobb credits her success and her continued work in breaking down barriers for the blind and visually impaired community to her family’s endless love and support, technological advances which have leveled the playing field for those with disabilities, and disability Allies/ accomplices around the world.
