What is the average net worth by age in America?
Well, for the sake of being fair, we are going to present average net worth by age as well as median net worth by age. Because after all, the median will give a more accurate snapshot of the true typical American.
You will notice over time that there are obvious trends with net wroth….that is that over the course of a lifetime the average net worth will increase. This is because you have had longer working years were you are able to invest and to save.
Also, in the beginning, net worth is slow to grow. But after some time….time being measured in years here….the rate of growth on net worth tends to pick up speed, that is likely because compound interest is taking over and helping to grow that money. Also, as people get closer and closer to retirement age, they then to save more money.
It’s a good idea to check on your net worth every so often, every 6 months of once a year is a good frequency. Your net worth is a good barometer of your over all financial health. You should notice a general trend with it, and that is that it is going up over time.
How much you need really depends on your lifestyle. It doesn’t do you any good to compare your net worth to anyones else’s. At the end of the day, your net worth really only matters to you and your unique situation.
