Up until closure in 2013, Maltby Main Colliery near Rotherham was one of several South Yorkshire pits connected to the rail network. A huge flow of coal traffic to and from the mines supplied the coal-fired power stations around Britain. This short video filmed in 1992, shows this traffic with BR Class 58s and Class 56 locos handling the majority of the traffic in and out of the mines. Part 2 to follow will show further examples of the rail connections at the adjacent colliery of Silverwood.
