Four Speed Toploader Ford Econoline Overdrive Swap | Subtitles, No Commentary

We got the big block six cylinder Ford 300 bolted to the new cross member in the last video, in this video we make a crossmember for the new transmission. The transmission started this whole project as the stock three speed is the biggest limiting factor on drivability, in my opinion. Some people call this transmission the Imposter Toploader, T&C, Town & Country, or SMOD RUG, it is a Tremec T170F 3 speed plus overdrive. It could be found in F-150s as an option from 78-79 but continued in the E-150 until 1987. Although it lasted for quite a few years in the E-150 it still proved difficult to find and every junkyard we called had never seen a manual transmission in those vans.

We also make room for a right side mounted alternator and Ford 4.9 EFI exhaust manifolds which we will be using as they flow better and don't have the heat riser that is found on the carburetor style manifold.
