In this video, we do a crazy-objective comparison between two of Collings' best mahogany dreadnought offerings. The new Hill Country series is, to paraphrase Collings, about as far as they think they'll ever go toward the Martin EQ curve. The Traditional, conceived about a year before Bill Collings' passing, had a similar mission statement. Both models are extremely satisfying, powerful, and would never be accused of coming out of Nazareth.
These instruments both have Adirondack spruce tops, mahogany back/sides/neck and a thin satin finish.
Ably played by Sam O'Hare, this was about as controlled an environment as we could hope to create. Both instruments were recorded through a Heritage Audio solid state preamp with no EQ or compression. The microphone is an Audio Technica 4033, the same mic that we've used on every demo for the last 7 years.
