Welcome back to Day 7 of my “Track in 30 Days with AI” challenge! Today we focused on arrangement and started shaping the intro of the track.
Even though my musical idea still feels incomplete, I decided not to wait for perfection—because this challenge is all about momentum and showing up every day. Here’s how the session went:
⸻
✅ What we did today:
• Used a reference track to identify and mark key sections: intro, build-up, drop, breakdown, outro
• Applied that structure to my own project in Logic Pro
• Reused the atmospheric pad I didn’t like in the drop, and made it work in the intro by stretching the chords and changing the sound
• Added filtered drums with automation to build tension like a riser
• Experimented with new pads using Analog Lab
• Automated cutoff filters and added effects using Portal, Thermal, and Kilohearts Filter
• Started shaping the energy and flow of the track
⸻
🧠 What we learned:
• Arrangement can follow any length or structure—there are no hard rules, just vibe and feel
• Reusing and transforming elements helps your track feel cohesive and connected
• A reference track is a great guide—not for copying, but for understanding structure, energy, and transitions
• Plugins like Portal and filter automation can quickly add movement and texture
⸻
🧱 Song structure:
1. Intro: Sets the mood and introduces key elements like a simple beat, ambient pads, or a melody to draw listeners in.
2. Build-Up: Increases tension and energy, often by adding percussion, risers, and other effects.
3. Drop: The climax of the track where the main beat, bassline, and melodic elements come together powerfully. This is the most energetic and impactful part.
4. Breakdown: A calmer section that provides a break from the intensity, often featuring atmospheric elements or stripped-back melodies.
5. Second Build-Up: Another tension-building phase that leads into the next drop or climax. This keeps the energy flowing and the listener engaged.
6. Second Drop: Often a variation of the first drop, sometimes with added elements or changes to keep it fresh and interesting.
7. Outro: The closing section that gradually reduces intensity, allowing the track to wind down smoothly.
⸻
💡 Today’s tip for music producers:
If your sections start sounding like they belong to different songs, try reusing and transforming sounds you already have.
Stretch them, slow them down, add reverb or filters. Keep the same DNA, just give it a new shape. That’s how you glue your track together.
