President Duma Boko Addresses Tonota Residents: A Bold Vision for Transparency and Local Development
Tonota, Botswana — July 3, 2025
President Duma Gideon Boko delivered a powerful speech during a community engagement meeting held at the Tonota Kgotla today, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to accountability, clean governance, and responsive service delivery.
Speaking directly to an attentive crowd of residents, President Boko began by acknowledging the challenges faced by the Tonota community, including limited access to clean water, failing infrastructure, and poor service delivery. He pledged that his government would not just listen, but take action based on the voices of the people.
“We are not here to lecture you. We are here to listen, to learn, and to act,” he said.
In one of the most striking moments of the address, President Boko boldly stated:
“I want you to know my relatives so that you can track whether any of them are benefiting from government tenders.”
This declaration was met with applause and has since sparked national attention, signaling the President’s clear stance against nepotism and corruption. His message was unequivocal, public service must be driven by merit, not family connections.
President Boko also reaffirmed his plan to embark on a countrywide listening tour, aimed at engaging communities directly and ensuring that national development strategies reflect grassroots realities.
On the issue of infrastructure, he acknowledged the need for urgent upgrades to rural roads, sanitation systems, and water supply schemes. He promised that Tonota, and similar communities often neglected in previous administrations, would see real and measurable progress under his leadership.
“Development must not just be spoken of in Gaborone boardrooms. It must be felt in places like Tonota, Molepolole, and Maun,” he added.
President Boko’s approach continues to break away from traditional political norms, placing transparency and accountability at the heart of his presidency. His remarks today reinforced his image as a leader committed to building a Botswana that belongs to and is shaped by its people.
As he concluded, he called on Batswana across the country to hold him and his administration accountable, saying:
“You didn’t elect us to hide behind policies. You elected us to deliver.”
