Art Concept presents Deldar Felemez's solo exhibition " Erasing the Distance Between Word and Color "

Art Concept is pleased to announce Erasing the Distance Between Word and Color, a solo exhibition by Syrian Swiss artist Deldar Felemez, opening on 1 December 2025 at Maison Jamsheer in Muharraq and continuing until 30 December as part of Layali al-Muharraq 2025.

Bridging the worlds of poetry and abstraction, Felemez unveils a significant new body of work inspired by the verses of Bahraini poet Qassim Haddad, particularly from his acclaimed collection Distance Therapy. These poems serve as a point of departure for the artist's visual exploration, transforming language into fields of color, gesture, and emotion.

Rather than illustrating the texts, Felemez translates their rhythm, silence, and imagery into painterly structures. Through layered tones, fluid gestures, and carefully constructed spatial compositions, his works convey the emotional resonance of Haddad's poetry while maintaining their own distinct visual presence.

"For many years, I have been captivated by the poetics of Qassim Haddad, poetry that moves beyond syntax to conjure an inner visual architecture. I have always felt that his verses carry within them unseen colors and lines, waiting to be released onto canvas," says Felemez.

The exhibition features thirty large- and medium-format paintings on canvas, alongside more than two hundred graphic works on brown paper (24 × 34 cm) executed in acrylic and ink. Balancing expressive freedom with measured restraint, the works sustain an intimate dialogue between word and image.

The Pain of Distance extends Felemez's long-standing engagement with the visual possibilities of literary text. In 2000, he produced a series inspired by Lautréamont's Les Chants de Maldoror, and in 2023–2024, he created a visual interpretation of Faraj Bayraqdar's Mirrors of Absence, exhibited in Zurich in early 2024. This new exhibition pays tribute to Haddad's powerful voice in contemporary Arabic poetry, marking a new chapter in Felemez's exploration of language, memory, and place—now presented in Muharraq within Layali al-Muharraq 2025.

About the Artist
Deldar Felemez (born Qamishli, Syria, 1970) lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland. A painter, poet, and critic, his practice often transforms poetic language into visual form. He studied at Zurich University of the Arts and is a member of the Union of Fine Artists in Syria. His works have been exhibited widely across Europe and the Middle East.
