Can AI Really Create Stunning Anime? I Tested Vidu Q1

Vidu just released its new Q1 model, so I ran some tests as usual.

This is Vidu's second model, focusing more on consistency and stability rather than pure dynamism. It finally offers HD quality, unlike its predecessor (2.0), with slightly longer videos (5 sec).

To summarize in one sentence: I think it's currently the best ai anime model if you're looking for stability, strong prompt understanding and hand-drawn-style rendering, but there are several drawbacks worth mentioning.

Here’s what I noticed during my initial tests (I’ll need more in-depth testing, especially with storytelling):

✅ Very consistent image and character style.
✅ Handles challenging styles effortlessly, especially hand-drawn/manga styles, outperforming competitors like Ray 2 Flash.
✅ Better depth than previous models, though I think Luma’s Ray 2 series still leads in terms of camera movements and depth for ai anime.
✅ Remarkably good facial expression handling (Vidu is really good at this!).
✅ Strong prompt understanding—can even incorporate consistent additional characters.
✅ More dynamic camera movements.

There are still several positive points! 😉

❌ Inconsistent animation speed (it may take several seconds for the character to perform the action)
❌ No option to extend video length, which can be frustrating.
❌ Occasional annoying bugs (like background elements randomly scrolling—hello moving trees 😂). ❌ Somewhat slow animation speed, though understandable given stability. Dynamism can still be boosted with transitions or frame tricks (like the white/black frame method I've shown before).
