Coyotes belonging to the canines such as the fox and the wolf. They have benefitted quite significantly from the near extinction of the wolfes. In Yellowstone they appear often in teams of two crossing the wide planes of the different valleys of Yellowstone National Park. However, finding food is the most important activity of any coyote in winter time. They have a diverse diet ranging from rodents to hares marking the largest fraction of their prey . But also to snakes, opossum, and even foxes are part of their diet.

Sharing of food is apparently not popular among coyote neighbors

This coyote decided to cross the streets directly in front of us. Using the Z9 with the 800 pf and a 1.4 times Tc we were able to take very nice close up pictures of this coyote hunting for rodents.

A few jump attempts were needed but the excellent hearing brought this coyote back on track – and made it finally successful. Another wonderful day in Yellowstone !
