Improving the shared management of Highly Migratory and Vulnerable Megafauna (cetaceans, turtles, seabirds, fishes, sharks) is an urgent topic in international marine policy. Yet, the high variability and the transboundary nature of these species movements poses great challenges in identifying areas of greater concern and of priority for action.
An example is the difficulty in applying the traditional spatially-based fixed management tools, which has prompted a recent surge in exploring more spatial-temporally dynamic version. Here, we show compelling evidence from Atlantic megafauna movement studies to illustrate this discussion.
