All monetization goes to Sony Pictures...For only one season (1965) did Richard Wess provide the TV Theme and music scoring for Sidney Sheldon's "I Dream Of Jeannie" for Screen Gems - which premiered on NBC-TV. ---READ MORE:
Richard Wess was best known as Bobby Darin's arranger and conductor for the hits "Mack the Knife" and "Beyond The Sea". He also worked with many other famous singers, like his contemporaries, who also worked on television scores during the 1960s (and even scored some "I Dream Of Jeannie" shows) such as Van Alexander and Nelson Riddle.
Sidney Sheldon, however, had some issues with the music or Wess, as he was ditched when production changed to color and was replaced by Hugo Montenegro, who also created another memorable theme (with Buddy Kaye) for "I Dream Of Jeannie" - which lasted for the remainder of production until 1970 when the series was canceled by NBC.
As a bonus in this video, instead of the often-heard Montenegro theme, I've included a stereo-simulated cleaned-up version of the rare "Not For Sale" version of the theme complete with the lyrics by Buddy Kaye - recorded on an RCA Victor special label on a 45rpm record.
Richard Wess died at age 43 in 1973. [Coincidentally, Bobby Darin died that same year at age 37 (after open heart surgery)].
Special note: DePatie-Freleng was commissioned (yes, that Friz Freleng) to do the opening title animation sequence for "I Dream of Jeannie" after their success with "The Pink Panther" animated title sequence for the movie.
