Visiting Arizona from the Perspective of Local

These are some of the highlights from my trip to Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff Arizona in 2024, after being away from this state for years. I used to live in Tucson, Arizona and share some of my favorite places over the years. This is not entirely inclusive, however these are a few of the places that you may be interested in.

Arizona makes for an ideal road trip destination, with cities that are easy to drive between and many diverse activities that each region offers. You can enjoy city life in Phoenix, or a quiet time in Flagstaff enjoying cooler temperatures of the higher elevation. Even in a city like Tucson, Arizona you can hike amongst the cholla and saguaro cactus and then drive up to Mt. Lemmon to ski in the winter!

You can enjoy the views of Downtown Tucson from Sentinel Peak, enjoy being in the Sonoran Desert's vast nature in Sabino Canyon, or cool off inside of the many indoor malls of Arizona.

The University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University are a few of the states incredible campuses, and their cities are a fun place to enjoy a brew, cup of coffee, or local art.

Night life is always a must in the desert, especially when daytime is too hot to be outside! Some of the places that you can enjoy at night include Mill Ave in Tempe, 4th Ave in Tucson, and even places such as Whiskey Row in Gilbert!

Don't forget to check out Tempe Town Lake near Phoenix, as this is an impressive creation in the middle of one of the hottest valleys in the country!

If you enjoy sports, the state has many local parks to enjoy baseball, tennis, and year round activities. You can also check out a Diamondbacks, Cardinals, Mercury, Suns, or Coyotes game!

Food is amazing here in the desert, especially Sonoran Mexican food. Be sure to try a Sonoran hot dog, Lindy's Burger, deep fried tacos or chimichangas from El Charro, and others!

Be prepared to be surprised by hot summer days, cold winter nights, and even a sudden monsoon thunderstorm! Nothing is more beautiful than an Arizona sunset after a rainstorm.
