Romain Virgo became a big name at a young age: At just 17 years old, he won a popular Jamaican TV singing competition and has been a star in his homeland ever since. With numerous hits, he has since proven that he is much more than just a one-hit wonder.
Born in 1990 in Stepney, Jamaica, Romain first sang in the church choir for years until he took part in the talent competition "Rising Stars" in 2007 and won as the youngest participant to date – he was just 17 years old at the time. With a few thousand euros in prize money and a record deal in his pocket, he subsequently recorded numerous hits, many of which are classics today: "Mi Caan Sleep", "Who Feels It Knows It" or "Taking You Home". His debut album was released in 2010.
Today, Romain Virgo is one of the most important representatives of the current roots reggae and lovers rock scene. In his sound he combines dancehall, Afrobeats and hip-hop, his lyrics cover a wide range of topics: From love songs to socially critical tracks to lyrics about false friends and single mothers, everything is there.
In the course of his career, Romain Virgo has worked with star producers such as Don Corleon (Rihanna, Sean Paul and Migos, among others) and Winta James (Damian Marley, Protoje, Chronixx, Tarrus Riley). Virgo cultivates a certain clean-cut and son-in-law image, but he cleans up mercilessly at his energetic live gigs.
