About Liverpool and its tourist attractions and sightseeing

Liverpool is a city in the North West of England. The city is located in the mouth of the Mersey River. This is the second largest export port of Great Britain. The historical part of the port city, including its main attraction, Albert Dock, was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2004. Liverpool is internationally well-known primarily because of its old football clubs - FC Everton and FC Liverpool. For many people the city is the birthplace of the legendary group "The Beatles", which started its performances here in the 60s of the previous century. In 2008, Liverpool, together with Stavanger, Norway, received the status of a cultural capital.

Residents of the city are officially called "liverpudlians", but the nickname "scousers" is much more well-known. Locals have got this nickname thanks to lobscouse – a pottage invented by Norwegian sailors and the main food of the poor port folk. People here speak a special dialect called scouse. Liverpool is internationally famous not only because of its legendary river port and The Beatles, but also because of large national horse races (Grand National Steeplechase). This lively city is worth visiting not only to see its places of interest, but also to enjoy great shopping, attend various sports competitions and participate in the nightlife of the city.

Without a doubt, Albert Dock is the most important sight of Liverpool. The dock was opened more than 150 years ago by Prince Albert, and it remains the symbol of prosperity of the city which once was the port of the international importance. Today, the huge complex of buildings named Albert Dock show on the map is home to numerous shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and museums.

Liverpool is a popular tourist destination with developed tourism infrastructure and tourism industry in general. The tourism sector is of great importance to Liverpool.
