The detention station floated in the darkness of space like a forgotten tomb. Its metal walls were cold and lifeless, lit only by the dim glow of emergency lights that flickered every few seconds. This wasn't a place where hope lived. This was where the galaxy sent those it wanted to forget.
Deep in the lower levels, past dozens of security checkpoints and plasma barriers, Princess Veyla sat alone in her cell. The chains around her wrists and ankles were made of Duranite, a metal so strong that it could only be forged in the heart of a dying neutron star. Every species in the known galaxy agreed on one thing: nothing could break Duranite. Not lasers. Not plasma cutters. Not even antimatter weapons. The chains were permanent. Absolute. Forever.
Veyla had been wearing them for three years now. Three long years of sitting in this cell, staring at the same gray walls, listening to the same humming of machinery. She barely remembered what freedom felt like anymore. The chains didn't just hold her body prisoner. They did something worse. They drained her strength, her telepathic powers, even her will to fight. Every day she felt a little more hollow, a little more like a ghost of who she used to be.
