D.C. family murder: suspect sought by police is Savopoulos family murder and fire - TomoNews

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Police released surveillance video Saturday of a person of interest in connection with the suspicious fire in Northwest D.C. that killed four people last Thursday.

The video shows a man in a hoodie moving behind a building. Authorities believe the man may have been seen driving the family’s Porsche 911 the day before the fire.

The fire appears to have been intentionally set, according to D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier.

Two of the victims have been identified as Savvas Savopoulos, 46, and his 47-year-old wife Amy Savopoulos. Police think the other two victims are the couple’s 10-year-old son Phillip and their 57-year-old housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, although their identities have not yet been confirmed.

Three of the four victims had blunt force or sharp object trauma, according to autopsy reports. The police report said that all victims suffered from “various traumatic injuries.”

The fire occurred on Thursday afternoon at the Savopoulos residence in the 3200 block of Woodland Drive, while the family’s Porsche 911 was discovered in a church parking lot in Hyattsville, Maryland.

"We have nothing to suggest that there was a random or forced entry to this house, but we want to have a little more time to sort through the evidence," Lanier said.

Authorities say they were able to retrieve a large amount of surveillance video, but at this moment have not identified a suspect or possible motive.

Police are asking for anyone who saw the blue Porsche 911 between Wednesday and Thursday to contact them.
