A film festival empowers the marginalised to tell their own stories | The Caravan

The Nomad Film Festival is organised by Budhan Stories, a Gujarat-based theatre organisation dedicated to the cause of Denotified and Nomadic tribes of India. The festival was held on 15 and 16 March, in Delhi. It opened with Mhara Pichchar, a documentary by Dakxin Chhara, on artists from Denotified Tribes. Community-created films such as Raat, where some women and men from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand shoot the experience of nights in rural areas, offer different perspectives. The Caravan spoke to three filmmakers about their films, experiences and the importance of a community-led festival.
