Alright, let's talk about it! Emilia Perez has been one of the most controversial movies with award buzz in a long time, and I had a lot of opinions after watching. Upon a historic 13 nominations at the Oscars, along with Golden Globes, and other prestigious awards, why is this controversial film winning so many awards? There's a huge disconnect between critics/award committees and audiences (particularly Spanish-speaking ones), so it's created endless discourse online. I wanted to discuss the movie, the flaws I saw in the depiction of Mexico and the trans experience, the misuse of Spanish throughout, the strange casting choices, the Selena Gomez conversations, and Latino identity overall. There was a lot to discuss and upon editing I found there was way more I could expand upon, but I think an hour-long video is enough for now!
