Police Report Says Commander’s Driver Pulled Gun on Civilian | Now & Next - Season 2 - Episode 9

An official police report filed at the Reliance Police Station, Berbice, has named Sergeant 21959 Danny Persaud, the driver of Region #6 Police Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus, in a serious firearm threat incident that reportedly occurred at 9:02 PM last night.

According to the report, Sergeant Persaud—while driving a heavily tinted Toyota Premio with an obscured license plate—was involved in a hit-and-run, striking a vehicle in the opposite lane and damaging its side mirror. The report states that he did not stop, prompting the civilian to follow in an attempt to resolve the matter peacefully.

When contact was eventually made, the officer allegedly refused to lower his window, later stating:

“I’m a mad man. I’m crazy.”

The report further alleges that Sergeant Persaud, who appeared intoxicated according to eyewitnesses, then removed a police-issued firearm, pointed it at the civilian, and made threats including:
• “I would buss you head anytime”
• “I would buss up your face tonight”

This is not the first allegation involving the same officer. A previous firearm-related incident at the OBL Club, Port Mourant, reportedly occurred last year and was allegedly handled internally.

WIN is now calling on the Guyana Police Force to clarify:
• What disciplinary action has been taken
• Whether the officer was breathalyzed
• Whether the firearm was seized
• What role, if any, the Region #6 Commander played

No officer, regardless of rank or assignment, should be above the law.

This matter is being brought to the attention of international oversight bodies, including diplomatic missions and human rights organizations.
