For today's #FlashbackFriday, we’re bringing you back to July 2022, on Johnston Atoll in the Central Pacific, during NA141 where our Corps of Exploration spotted a variety of deep sea shrimp. In this video, our control van scientists discuss the biology and ecology of these marine invertebrates while zooming in on some of their coolest features such as their “fluffy” feat (called swimmerets) and long antennae. Unlike many crabs and lobsters, shrimps lack a calcified shell, making them speedy and more flexible.
For more than a decade, E/V Nautilus has traveled all over the globe making exciting discoveries on never before seen seafloor. Learn more about this expedition exploring the deep sea biodiversity and ancient volcanoes near Johnston Atoll: http://nautiluslive.org/na141
