One in six men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime, but not all prostate cancers are deadly. For men diagnosed with prostate cancer that may remain harmless, UCLA has created an "active surveillance" program to monitor the condition of their disease. Enrolled men periodically undergo prostate biopsy with the help of a needle guidance robot, the Artemis. The biopsies are guided by fusing real-time ultrasound images with targets generated from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
