The Kiswa cloth is the black cloth that covers the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The cloth is made of pure silk and is intricately embroidered with gold and silver threads. The history of the Kiswa cloth dates back to the early days of Islam.

The first Kiswa cloth was made during the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It was a simple cloth made of white cotton that was used to cover the Kaaba. Over the years, the Kiswa cloth evolved and became more elaborate.

During the reign of the Abbasid Caliphs in the 8th century, the Kiswa cloth was made of black silk and embroidered with gold threads. The Abbasid Caliphs also added verses from the Quran to the Kiswa cloth.

In the 10th century, the Fatimid Caliphs of Egypt took over the production of the Kiswa cloth. They added a green band to the bottom of the cloth and embroidered it with gold threads.

The Ottoman Caliphs of Turkey took over the production of the Kiswa cloth in the 16th century. They added the calligraphic inscription of the name of Allah to the Kiswa cloth.

Today, the Kiswa cloth is produced every year in a special factory in Mecca. The cloth is made of pure silk and is embroidered with gold and silver threads. The Kiswa cloth is replaced every year on the 9th day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, which is the day of Arafat.
