For prints and photography, how much colour management kit do you need? When's it wasting your money

It's easy to spend a lot of money on colour management kit for calibration and profiling. What's really useful and what's just nice to have or even of no use at all?

The Colour Management book I recommend is Bruce Fraser's
'Real World Color Management'
Should be available 2nd hand at a good price.
