WALT DISNEY - History

1. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois.
2. The second of four sons born to Elias and Flora Disney, Walter was a shy boy who enjoyed drawing.
3. In 1906, the Disneys moved to a farm in Marceline, Missouri, where Walter spent his happiest childhood years.
4. Walt had a gift for entertaining, and he put on shows for the neighborhood children, charging them a nickel to see his "act."
5. In 1917, Walt Disney began working as an artist for the Kansas City Film Ad Company.
6. In 1923, Walt and his brother Roy formed the Disney Brothers Studio in Hollywood.
7. The first Disney character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, was created in 1927.
8. In 1929, Walt Disney created his most famous character, Mickey Mouse.
9. The first full-length animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, was released in 1937.
10. In 1940, Disney released the film Fantasia, which featured the music of classical composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky.
11. In 1955, Disneyland, the first Disney theme park, opened in Anaheim, California.
12. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, at the age of 65. Roy Disney continued to run the company, which today is one of the most successful entertainment businesses in the world.
