The Unstoppable Women's 200m | Lieke Klaver Leaves Femke Bol Behind
The women’s 200 meters final at the Dutch National Championships turned into a compelling demonstration of how unforgiving the half-lap sprint can be. What initially looked like a balanced contest quickly became a clear illustration of specialization, speed, and race execution at the highest level.
For Femke Bol, the 200m was never the main objective, but rather a demanding test of raw speed. Known worldwide for her dominance in the 400m hurdles, Bol thrives in races where rhythm, endurance, and late-race strength are decisive. Over 200 meters, however, those advantages are largely neutralized. There is no space to build gradually — the race demands instant acceleration and top-end velocity from the first step. Although Bol looked smooth and confident in the qualifying rounds, the final posed a very different challenge.
