ASOC Certified Cancer Care

The Lee Health Cancer Institute has been certified by the American Society of Clinical Oncology for meeting patient-centered cancer care standards. “This is the highest quality of care. It's one thing to say you have it, but here you have an independent organization saying you do. You've met our expectations, and it's an elite group. We're proud to be part of this group,” said Dr. Mark Roh, Chief Physician Executive of Oncology Services.

The certification means Lee Health met 38 different standards related to care delivery and chemotherapy safety. “It has everything to do from access patient satisfaction, evidence-based medicine, follow up care, palliative care, all of the things that are important to patients,” said Debi WIlson, Vice President of Operations Lee Health Cancer Institute.

“We're committed to every aspect of that patient's journey, whether it's related to cancer or kind of tangentially related, but all the different steps,” said Dr. Roh. “We like to say we put our arms around the patient and encompass you to get you through this journey”

“This is not one doctor. It's not one nurse. It truly took the whole oncology team to meet these standards. And so, the patient will feel that everywhere they go, from the doctor's office to the chemotherapy chair, to the nurse navigator appointment, the dietitian appointment, we're all working towards these standards,” said Wilson. “It has created a culture of continuous quality improvement. How can we do better? So, we have standards now that we've met. But how do we build upon those standards?”
