Day #10 Fluid Arte Acrylic -Iridescent Floetrol- Detail- Swipe- by Leslie Ohnstad

In this Video leslie Ohnstad applies Fluid paint colors with squeeze bottle decorator tips. PLUS mixes red pearl (interference Red l) & Violet pearl (Interference violet) in pure Floetrol no acrylic medium.

Floetrol dries clear giving the illusion of white paint- with interference pearl “pop. Black cells form over the “white area” (from the black swipe) and dries to red-violet iridescent pearl finish PLUS surrounding colors create a gradient as they mix in. All colors ( EXCEPT BLACK) are thinned with water and a couple shots of WD40- Specialist water resistant Silicone. NO Pouring medium.

SUBJECT: Mixing your paint Extra Step:

When using Primary Elements Arte-Pigements Used in this Video you have a special step Mix 1/2 tsp dry Arte-Pigment with 1 oz. (2 tablespoons) acrylic medium -mix WELL in 4 oz. salsa cup, I use the Vivid Clear acrylic Enamel becuase I like how it dries to a gloss magnifying the brilliance of the pigments. Mix pigments in well until they totally dissolve.

Pouring mediums and Special additives: There are many artists who eyeball their ingrediants and others who measure and weigh their ingredients:
NO MATTER your choice of additives they MUST be mixed in your paint BEFORE the water. YOUR goal is, BONDING your acrylic paint and additives molecular structures into one. MIX well until they are smooth.

Estimated percentages of additives to paint: Pouring Medium 20-25% Floetrol ,5-20% PVA Glue combos. 10-25%

Water: What is not a specific science is a precise measurement of water.

Each acrylic base has a unique threshold. (varying from manufacture tomanufacture) of how much water it can accept before the acrylic adhesion is compromised and “ crazing”occurs – ( WHICH IS WHY many artist use pouring medium as insurance.)

Each Pigment also has a unique threshold and speed in which the color accepts water. It is ALWAYS best to add your water slowly (add a tsp or less of water at a time). WHY?

The pigments and acrylic build, swell and accept the water at their own pace, there is NO rushing this process.

Even if you know precisely how much water should go into a color you’ve mixed a dozen times,THERE is NO CUTTING corners of this part of the paint mixing.

DO NOT make the mistake of dumping in all the water at once, you will have to mix and mix, and risk it still will not come out right.

Yes this could be considered the tedious part but It can be also be relaxing and you eventually will learn the feel of the paint and know BY the FEEL when it is correct consistency.

Properly mixed Paint is KEY to your success. T t
Too Thick-Paint will drop of stick in clumps OR paint flow “breaks” and then starts again.
