Autism and Eating Disorders: Exploring the Complex Relationship Between these Conditions, and Their Treatment
Eating disorders and Autism often co-occur; up to 37% of individuals with eating disorders also have Autism. Unfortunately, many clinicians and providers remain unaware of this common overlap, which can negatively impact the treatment experience and outcomes for these individuals. This event provides an overview of Autism and eating disorders, and how the two might present. It also discusses a variety of important considerations when working with this population, including cross-collaboration with other specialities and how to modify common eating disorder interventions to align with the needs of Autistic patients.
