Part II of my Arkansas Pen Show adventures features a nib grind video in which Matthew Chen of Matthew's Nib Works grind a broad Pilot nib into a Kodachi (his own take on the Naginata Togi-style grind that was made famous in Japan). You can read more about the history behind this specific grind on his site (link below), but in short, a Kodachi nib will give you line variation similar to that offered by an architect nib - narrow down strokes/wider cross-strokes - while not feeling as sharp. On a "true" Kodachi nib you will also be able to vary the line width by lowering the writing angle of the pen, which will cause the line to get broader. I hope you enjoy this video, and that it gives you a sense of what it's like to get a nib customized at a pen show!
