Here in Minnesota it gets cold in the winter. Cold enough to freeze a 200 gallon stock tank solid overnight. I finally got sick of dealing with it so I made up an insulated and heated stock tank to keep the ice at bay.
We used it through a week of 10 degree days and only ever had to break some surface ice. Next year I'll make a larger version with a lid for when we have more animals on pasture.
