Dyeing UCP Surplus w/ Rit DyeMore Synthetic | Results & Outdoor Test

Hey folks, today I want to show you what I have been working on for the past few weeks. I dyed some UCP gear to make it actually usable. This video took me a long time, and a chunk of change, to make so I hope you enjoy the video. Remember, you can't make UCP any worse than it is. Cheers.

UCP Rit Dye Process:

WARNINGS:
-This process can damage/make DWR (Durable Water Resistant) coatings tacky or sticky. This is most noticeable on the inside of gear. The tackiness can be reduced/removed by wiping it away with 70% rubbing alcohol and a rag.
-Each dyed item can have inconsistencies in color from each other due to factors like: age, wear level, manufacturer, staining, etc. Items with more wear tend to come out darker than a like-new item.
-Boiling water is hot, wear suitable gloves or use a sturdy stick when agitating gear in the dye solution to avoid hurting yourself.

Tips:
-Clean your gear before dyeing it.
-Make sure to move the gear around and keep as much of it submerged as possible while doing this process.
-The gear will be darker than it's final shade when freshy dyed and wet so do a test batch and let it dry to see what a final result will look like.

Green:
-7oz (1 bottle) of Peacock Green Rit DyeMore Synthetic
-1oz of Chocolate Brown Rit DyeMore Synthetic
-a squeeze of dish soap
-3 gal of boiling hot water
-Pour all of the above into a suitable container and mix well
-Quickly put in your gear and keep agitating/moving the items around for 30 min.
-Dump the mixture and rinse gear with water until the gear stops leaking dye.

For my ruck and a few smaller items I used the same 7:1 ratio of dye but with 10.5oz (1 ½ bottles) of green : 1.5oz of brown and roughly 5 gal of water. This was because there was a lot of material to dye. I used a clean trash can (that I use for yard work) for my container.

Brown:
-First dye your gear with the green recipe above
-4oz of Chocolate Brown Rit Dyemore Synthetic
-a squeeze of dish soap
-3 gal of boiling hot water
-Pour all of the above into a suitable container and mix well
-Quickly put in your gear and keep agitating/moving the items around for ~5 min.
-Dump the mixture and rinse gear with water until the gear stops leaking dye.
