This was written for a pitch. Sadly, the time constraints meant I didn't have it in the shape it needed to be and it got rejected. But that's the way it goes. It was supposed to capture the sound and feel of Elmer Bernstein's Western scores, particularly The Magnificant Seven. I thought my piece felt a little less -- what? -- "manly" than his? I immediately thought of Calamity Jane, especially as she was portrayed in the TV masterpiece Deadwood: of course, a strong woman, but with such a good heart that she collapsed when confronted with Al Sweringen's deep moments of darkness that bordered on evil. She was as strong as they come, but with a maternal gentleness she was hesitant to reveal; a beautiful sensitivity she covered with constant profanity. Anyway, this is how I see the character in terms of music. Please ask if you want to use this for anything.
