Lyrics:
We've got lots of love for the octopus
It's an eight-armed cephalopod
Of all the crazy creatures that are floatin' in the ocean
This one is especially odd
It's got a (pause) squishy body 'cause it has no bones
Invertebrate is what it's called
It can change it's shape if it needs to escape
Through spaces either big or small
"Octopus" literally means eight feet
That's the word that was coined from the Ancient Greek
But I think it's important that I mention this
According to the scientists those eight appendages are called arms
Whatever they're called, they're really cool
Each arm has a mind of its own (and that rules!)
On the bottom of their arms are circular suckers
They grip surfaces when they pucker
To help the octopus move from one place to another
And let's not forget the octopus can change color
To camouflage itself and provide perfect cover
To hide from the predators but also to disguise itself as other
Sea creatures, yeah that's actually real!
The octopus can make itself look like an eel, or a crab, or a flounder, even a sea snake
Take some time to think about it while we take this little break
Octopuses are some of nature’s most intelligent creatures. They have great short and long-term memory and are excellent problem-solvers!
Now let's hear from Mr. Octopus!
I'm an octopus known as a curious creature
I look kinda bizarre with some interesting features
And I can name a lot of 'em so where should I start?
Well, how about the fact that I have three hearts!
Another cool thing that is strange but true
Is that instead of red blood, my blood is blue
And when I need to keep predators away, I can spray
A cloud of ink, kinda strange don't you think?
If you ever wondered how an octopus eats
Believe it or not, I have a sharp hard beak
I can crunch on the shells of clams, crabs and snails
There's a lot to learn about me as you probably can tell
We've got lots of love for the octopus
It's an eight-armed cephalopod
Of all the crazy creatures that are floatin' in the ocean
This one is especially odd
It's got a (pause) squishy body 'cause it has no bones
Invertebrate is what it's called
It can change it's shape if it needs to escape
Through spaces either big or small
