What is a Trench/Strip in Construction & How to Measure It
In construction, a trench or strip refers to a long, narrow excavation typically used for foundations, drainage, or utility installations. A strip foundation is a continuous strip of concrete laid to support load-bearing walls. Trenches are also dug to lay pipes, cables, and other infrastructure.
Measuring a Trench/Strip involves calculating its depth, width, and length to ensure proper foundation support:
1. Depth: Measured from the ground level to the bottom of the trench.
2. Width: Determined by the structural requirements and the width of the wall or utility being supported.
3. Length: Measured along the path of the trench or foundation.
Accurate measurements are crucial to avoid structural issues and ensure stability.
